Caring for creation
In January, we undertook an energy audit of our church and church hall. The results showed that our current carbon footprint stands at around 40 tonnes of CO₂ per year—roughly equivalent to the annual emissions of four or five average homes. While this figure may seem abstract, it serves as a tangible reminder of the impact our buildings have on God’s creation.
As Christians, we are called to be faithful stewards of the earth, caring for it not only as a resource but as a sacred gift entrusted to us by our Creator. In Genesis, we are given the responsibility to “tend and keep” the garden, a charge that extends beyond our personal lives and into the collective life of our church community.
In partnership with the diocese, we are now exploring meaningful ways to reduce our emissions in line with the Church of England’s net zero carbon target. This is not simply a logistical or financial undertaking—it is a spiritual one, rooted in our call to love our neighbour, to care for the vulnerable most affected by climate change, and to honour God in the way we live and worship.
Please join us in prayer as we discern the next steps together, seeking both wisdom and courage to walk gently on the earth.
Ways to care at home
Every month we share practical ideas of ways you can help reduce your carbon footprint at home. We hope that these inspire you to make simple changes as together we care for creation.
